LOY Contemporary Art Gallery proud to announce ‘Silence Between Forms’ – a compelling duo show highlighting the distinct practices of Chinese contemporary artist Liu Bin and Bamboo Weaving artist Qian Lihuai from Wuzhen, China. At the 12th edition of AsiaNOW, set against the historical architecture of La Monnaie de Paris, this exhibition proposes that silence is not an absence of meaning, but an active, breathing void.

Liu Bin interrogates organic and allegorical subject matter— most notably his surrealist botanical shapes and mythic mushroom motifs—by distorting their natural logic. He strips these familiar ecological fixtures of their pastoral innocence, rendering them instead as uncanny, existential markers of a fragmented psychological landscape. Qian liberates a millennia-old craft from utility, elevating it into the realm of contemporary sculpture. Infusing ancient techniques with modern industrial design thinking, he reduces weaving to fundamental geometric rules and systemised patterns. His coiled and curved bamboo strips map the invisible currents of nature—ripples of water, shifting winds, and open skies. For Qian, making is an act of listening; he negotiates with the organic tension of the bamboo, allowing form to grow naturally through labor, touch, and time.

The works of Liu and Qian form a dynamic, symbiotic ecosystem. Qian’s tactile, physical "warp-and-weft" materializes the hidden networks, grids, and structural balances that float conceptually within Liu’s diffuse, dreamlike oil paintings. Conversely, Liu's paintings offer a vast psychological horizon for Qian's tightly woven sculptures to inhabit and breathe within.

Interlaced Horizons honors Asia NOW's mission to transcend traditional art fair categories. Together, Liu Bin and Qian Lihuai remind us that contemporary Asian art is not defined by geographic borders, but by a shared methodology of constant reinvention—weaving together the traces of history with the fluid possibilities of tomorrow.
