OUTSIDE LOOKING IN brings together our represented artists across photography, painting, and ceramics to explore the boundaries of their respective disciplines. Through these varied approaches, the exhibition invites viewers to step beyond the familiar, offeringa vital space to rethink, revitalize and re-vision the future of contemporary art.

Featured Artists:

Akai Chew (Singapore, b. 1987) examines urban memories and hidden histories through photography, maps, and installations. With a background in urban planning, he has exhibited globally, including Dark MOFO 2018 and an urban intervention, Fragment of a Shoreline (2023) commissioned by the National Gallery of Singapore for Light to Night 2022, uncovering the unseen layers of place and identity. His ‘Obituaries’ series is being acquired for the National Collection. The acquisition of this significant body of work by a National Institution marks a pivotal milestone in Akai’s trajectory. Akai Chew is represented by LOY Contemporary Art Gallery.

Ariele Bacchetti born in Dolomites, mountains in northeastern Italy, 1994. Ariele Bacchetti's subject is the indefinable territory: nature. His narrative is set in the Italian province of Belluno, a protected area declared a World Heritage Site. In rich, dark blue, red, green, or purple tones, he depicts lush vegetation, sometimes glimpsed with the shadows of animals or people. Bacchetti’s nature is by no means scenic or bucolic, but wild and unspoiled. Dense, dark shrubs invite us to get lost in them, not to linger. Bacchetti graduated from Liceo Artistico T. Catullo in 2015 and continued his studies at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, completing his training in 2020.

Rori Hee (b. 1979)  was born in Seoul, South Korea, and studied Visual Art and Design at Jangan University. She worked as a cartoon designer and planner for Cyworld, the largest community website in Korea. During this period, she accumulated a lot of artistic experience, which laid the foundation for her artistic career. Rori identifies herself with the image of a young girl in her artwork. Through her continuous exploration of art, she expresses her own sense of existence. The vibrant colour and playful imagination in her artwork reflect her longing for a brilliant life. To add a personal touch to her paintings, she utilises techniques such as gestural creation, colour layering, and fluorescent blending. She particularly facours highly saturated fluorescent colours to enhnace the visual imacts of her works, which complements the pureness conveyed by the girls in her compositions.

Wang Xiaolin was born in Yuncheng, Shan’xi, China, in 1988. Wang excels at leading the audience from their everyday experiences into profound existential encounters. Influenced by Confucian teachings and Daoist philosophy, his works often explore various dilemmas of existence, nature and human beings, the performative nature of identity, and the

deceitfulness of contemporary virtual life. Represented by LOY Contemporary Art Gallery , his debut solo exhibition, ‘Future is a Journey to the Past’, marked him as a distinctive new voice in contemporary porcelain painting. His first feature work, PangHuang (2015), received the National Arts Foundation award in China. He has exhibited at the Palace Museum in Beijing, China (2016); the 9th Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea (2019); and the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale, Jingdezhen, China (2019 and 2021).

Young Lee born in Seoul in1982, Young built an eight-year career as a graphic designer before pivoting to fine art. Her background in design informs her precise spatial compositions and nuanced approach to color. Over time, her practice has evolved into a refined surrealist language. Drawing from lived experience and shifting environments, she explores time, perception, and impermanence through a meditative lens, in tune with the fleeting intensity of present moments. Her compositions unfold as psychological landscapes, reflecting the quiet equilibrium of contemporary existence. Since obtaining an MFA at the New York Academy of Art in 2020, Young has exhibited her work in galleries and art fairs. Recent shows include solo shows (New York, Madrid), group shows (Seoul, Dubai), Dallas Art Fair, and Frieze Art Fair (New York). Young lives and works between West New York and Atlanta.
